Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about navigating special education and advocacy in Massachusetts.

What does an educational advocate do?

An educational advocate helps families understand their child's educational rights, navigate the special education process, and work with schools to ensure their child receives appropriate support and services.

How do I know if I need an educational advocate?

If you're feeling overwhelmed by the special education process, unsure about your child's IEP or 504 Plan, or concerned that their needs aren't being met, an advocate can help. You don't have to be in a disagreement with the school to benefit from advocacy support.

Can you attend IEP or 504 meetings with me?

Yes! I can attend meetings with you to provide support, help communicate your concerns, ask questions, and ensure your voice is heard. Depending on your location, I attend meetings both in-person and virtually.

What if I have a good relationship with my child's school?

That's wonderful! Advocacy doesn't have to be confrontational. My goal is to help families and schools work collaboratively to support student success.

What's the difference between an educational advocate and a special education attorney?

An educational advocate provides guidance, support, and assistance navigating the special education process. An attorney can provide legal representation and legal advice. While advocates can help families understand educational rights and procedures, they do not replace an attorney.

What if I can't afford your services?

I believe every family deserves access to support and guidance, regardless of their financial situation. I offer sliding-scale pricing for families experiencing financial hardship. If cost is a concern, please reach out! I'm happy to discuss options that may work within your budget.
